What helped set the GTO apart from other muscle cars sat on top of the 6.5 litre motor - three carburetors in a row topped with three small chrome air filters. It was a look, and a sound, that was unmistakably American.
GTO sales more than doubled in its second year, with 8,319 sport coupes, 55,722 hardtop coupes, and 11,311 convertibles sold, a combined total of 75,342. For 1965, horsepower increased to 335 the standard 389 4-barrel engine, Tri-power motor output jumped to 360 horsepower.
