In an attempt to compete with GM's Cadillac and Ford's Lincoln, Chrysler began marketing the Imperial as its own separate marque in 1955.
New for 1959 was the "Silvercrest" roof, which featured a stainless steel front with a painted rear canopy. A Landau version was also offered. Also new were swivel-out front seats that were part of the six-way electric front bench.
Another popular option was the fake continental tire bulge, called the "FliteSweep" deck lid.
